How to create your own Recipe Site
If you love cooking, and you have a recipe collection, you can develop your
own recipe site, and make money with it! Just like
I did.
Keep reading, and you'll learn how to do it. It's easy, the only things you
need are BAM (Brains And Motivation). No need for HTML, XML o whatsoever acronym
knowledge. If you're handy at the kitchen and/or love to cook, and you're
willing to share this knowledge with other people, follow this guide, and you'll
be able to make a nice side income with your recipes.
Why most online businesses fail
Before proceeding with our guide, I believe it is important to learn what
not to do. If you want to do it right - that is, if you want to get your
efforts rewarded - you need to know that failure is possible. It's not only
possible, it does happen.
The number of websites grow by the day. Everyone is setting up new sites
every day. However, only a handful of them are profitable. Only a small number
get income from their work. Specially small operations like ours.
So why do most online small businesses fail? Because they do not recognize
and act upon the profound difference between offline and online commerce:
- Offline, put your business where people crowd by... and you're all set.
Get your cash register ready! It's all about "location, location, location.
- Online, the fundamental reality of how people use the Web is different.
No one "passes by." They search for "information, information, information."
So what is the big mistake, the thing you have to avoid?
The main reason for failure is not recognizing this reality: people are
looking for information - in our case recipes. They are not looking for a fancy
domain name, or a collection of affiliate links, or even a nice site design.
They want information!
Most failures are caused by forgetting this fundamental fact. People set up a
nice site - spending money on web design -, purchase a cute domain name, and
populate it with links and ads, with no real content inside.
I'm not saying that these things are not important, but they have to be done
in the right order. Start with quality content - your recipes - and follow by
setting up this nice-looking site with a fancy domain name. Get some visitors
and make them open to purchase whatever you recommend. Then the money will just
flow to you. That is what we call the CTPM process.
A process that works
It's so simple. Not "easy" (real business takes some work)... it's
simple. No technical barriers will frustrate and stop you. Instead, you focus on
building your business. Provide in-demand information ("Content") about
something you know. From that point on, everything flows...
Let's review C
T
P
M, the proven way to build any business online.
Content
Web users search for information, for solutions. They are not looking for you
- they don't know you (yet!). They seek what you know. Give it to them. Convert
your knowledge into in-demand Content. To succeed online, start where they start
- at "the search."
Traffic
Your topical content ranks high at the Search Engines (ex., Google, Yahoo!
MSN), attracting free, targeted (i.e., interested), open-to-you visitors.
Basically, these future customers "meet you" at your site. These visitors are
known as "Traffic."
PREsell
Complete strangers develop trust and confidence in you. Why? You "PREsell" by
OVERdelivering what they seek... relevant, original, information.
Deliver it in your own voice, in your own way. Go beyond merely instilling
confidence... your visitors will like you.
Monetize
Convert warm, willing-to-buy ("PREsold") visitors into income. Called "Monetizing,"
this is the easy part. But "M" cannot happen if you fail to
first execute C
T
P. This is where 99% of small businesses fail.
C
T
P is the motor that drives "M."
Once you have your own PREsold traffic, you are in control. Blend in multiple
streams of revenue, not just one. Diversify to maximize income, growth and
stability.
10 Steps to Success
The CTPM process outlined before is quite theoretical. It encompasses the key
concepts you need to bear in mind to succeed in your endeavor, but it cannot be
put into practice straight away.
To do so, we've developed a 10-step Action guide that covers all this topics
in a practical, easy-to-do way. Just follow it, and at the end of the way you'll
have a nice website with your recipes, that will get you an even nicer source of
income.
This is a 10-step guide. Use it as you will, but I'd advise you to read a
chapter a day, and try to put it into practice before proceeding to the next
section. That's only a suggestion, but I believe you'll get better results if
you do as I say.
Step 1: Understanding the
business model
Step 2: Developing your site concept
Step 3: Brainstorming profitable topics
Step 4: Investigating and planning Monetization options
Step 5: Refine site concept and register domain name
Step 6: Build the site!
Step 7: Building free traffic
Step 8: Build relationships
Step 9: Get to know your visitors
Step 10: Monetize it!
TIP: I 'd advise you to print
this pages and take some time to read them before you start doing anything. If
you're at work, e-mail it at your personal address and read it at home. It's
not difficult to understand, but it takes some time. Use the links at the
top of the pages to do it. I would also suggest you to bookmark this page as
well for future reference and to check updates.
